Baseball Sweeps Augusta Crusaders

The JV team breezed to an 11-3 victory against the Augusta Crusaders (another home school team) on Friday night.  Trevor Dacus pitched six strong innings against the Crusaders.  He gave up one earned run and four hits.  He also struck out seven and walked three.  Pat Brunson pitched the final inning giving up one earned run.  The Crusaders had one hit and one walk against Pat.  The Panthers pounded the Crusaders pitching for fourteen hits.  They were led by Anderson Blevins and Pat Brunson who both had three hits.  Pat’s hits included a double and a triple.  Cal Hucks and Drew Hankins both had two hits with both hitting a single and a double.  James Reed hit a triple and Parker Pocock got his first hit of the year. The JV team is now 11-4-1.

The Varsity team won a well played game 4-2 against the Augusta Crusaders.  Thomas Castles pitched a very good game for the Panthers.  He pitched seven innings during which he gave up no earned runs and only two hits.  He struck out three.  Panther hitters pounded out seven hits led by Alex Blevins who had two hits including a triple.  Alex, Danny Morales and Joseph Sightler all had one RBI on the night.  It was a one run game heading into the bottom of the sixth.  With two outs Jacob Brunson tripled to deep right field and scored on a wild pitch giving the Panthers a little breathing room in the last inning.  The Panthers are now 7-9 on the season.

Baseball Splits Against Ben Lippen

The JV team beat Ben Lippen 6-3 on Tuesday night.  JC Ellis earned the win, pitching five and one third innings.  He gave up six hits and three earned runs.  JC struck out six and walked one.  Caleb Wilson earned a save on the mound pitching the final one and two thirds innings.  He gave up one earned runs, one hit and struck out two.  The Panthers scored six runs on four hits taking advantage of six hits and one error.  The JV team was led at the plate by Jacob Cain, Clay Dickinson, James Reed and Pat Brunson who all had one hit.  Clay and James both hit doubles.  The JV team is now 10-4-1.

The Varsity team lost to Ben Lippen 3-2 in a game that was close all the way throughout.  Logan Dickinson pitched a complete game for the Panthers.  He gave up three earned runs, seven hits while striking out two.  The Panther batters were led by Jonathan Liva who had three hits which included one double.  The varsity is now 6-9 on the season.

Baseball Loses Two Against Hammond

The JV team lost 6-1 against the Skyhawks from Hammond on Monday night.  Jacob Cain pitched six solid innings giving up two earned runs but still took the loss.  He struck out seven while allowing six hits.  The Panthers were undone in the first when they got runners on 2nd and 3rd with one out and could not push a run across. In the bottom of the frame, the Skyhawks scored four runs taking advantage of two hits, an error, a hit batsman, a walk and a wild pitch.  The Panthers could only muster two hits on the night as the Skyhawks hurler kept them off balance all night with a good curve ball.  Anderson Blevins and Jacob Cain both had a single.  Cal Hucks got an RBI when he grounded out driving in Pat Brunson from third who had reached base on a walk.  The JV team is now 9-4-1.

The Varsity lost 10-in the nightcap.  Joseph Sightler pitched four innings giving up six hits.  The defense made five errors behind him accounting for the other Skyhawk runs.  Offensively, Jonathan Liva provided the only hit for the night.  The Varsity team is now 6-8.


Baseball Splits with Augusta Christian

The JV team won another game beating Augusta Christian 3-0 behind a superlative pitching effort from Trevor Dacus.  Trevor pitched a seven inning shutout.  He gave up eight hits, struck out five and walked two.  The Panthers played stellar defense behind Dacus with Clay Dickinson, Caleb Wilson and Anderson Blevins all having multiple assists.  The Panthers were led at the plate by Cole Owens who had three hits.  Anderson Blevins and Clay Dickinson both had two hits.  Clay, Cal Hucks and Daniel Barfield all had one RBI.  The JV team is now 9-3-1.

The Varsity team lost a heartbreaker 8-7 in extra innings on a two run homer by the Lions in the bottom of the eighth inning.  After scoring three runs in the second inning, the Panthers fell behind after the Lions plated five in the bottom of the frame. One of the Lions hits was a two run homer by Matt Herzwurm.  The Lions added a single run in the fourth.  The Panthers responded by scoring two in the fifth on a two run homer by Danny Morales.  After a scoreless sixth inning, the Panthers scored one run in the seventh to tie the game.  Alex Blevins led off with a single and went from 1st to 3rd on a sacrifice bunt by Josh Hanna.  Danny Morales hit a shallow fly ball that was caught in right field, but the right fielder made an errant throw allowing Alex to score from 3rd.  After holding the Lions scoreless in the bottom of the seventh, the game entered extra innings.  The Panthers plated one run in the top of the inning taking advantage of an error by the Lions second baseman.  The Lions leadoff hitter hit a single to start the bottom of the seventh when Matt Herzwurm gave up again.  He hit a walk off two run home run to end the game.  For the day the Danny Morales and Joseph Sightler both had two hits with Danny’s hits including the aforementioned homerun and a double. Danny had three RBI’s on the day.  Three Panther hurlers toed the rubber against the Lions.  They were Logan Dickinson (five earned runs, seven hits and one strikeout), Joseph Sightler (one earned run, four hits and one strikeout) and Thomas Castles (two earned runs and five hits).  The Varsity team is now 6-7.

Baseball Splits with Augusta Crusaders

The JV baseball team won a high scoring game 9-7 against the Augusta Crusaders, another homeschool team.  JC Ellis pitched four innings to get the win with Caleb Wilson pitched the final three innings earning a save.  JC gave up fifteen hits and six earned runs.  He struck out one and walked two.  Caleb gave up no earned runs, two hits and got one strikeout.  The Panthers had a season high eighteen hits and eight RBI’s.  The Panthers had seven players with multiple hits.  They were James Reed and Cole Owens with three hits and Anderson Blevins, Caleb Wilson, Clay Dickinson, Cal Hucks and Daniel Barfield who all had two hits.  James Reed’s hits included a triple and Jacob Cain had a double.  The JV team is now 8-3-1.

The Varsity team lost 8-3 in the second game.  For the day, three Panther pitchers were on the mound.  Jonathan Liva started the game and pitched two and one third innings giving up two runs (none earned), walking five and giving up one hit.  Josh Hanna followed on the mound.  Josh took the loss giving up two earned runs in one and two thirds innings.  Alex Blevins pitched the final two innings giving up four runs (three earned).  Jonathan Liva led the Panthers at the plate with two hits.  Alex Goodwin slapped a double down the right field line.  The Varsity team is now 6-6.

Baseball Teams Sweep Heathwood

The Panthers JV team beat Heathwood Hall on Tuesday night 14-7 in five innings.  Jacob Cain pitched three innings to get the win.  He gave up three earned runs, five hits and struck out five.  Clay Dickinson threw for two thirds of an inning giving up three earned runs. Anderson Blevins finished the game on the mound allowing no earned runs.  Panther batters banged out fourteen hits against the Highlander hurlers.  Caleb Wilson had three hits while James Reed, Cole Owens, Pat Brunson and Daniel Barfield all had two hits.  Reed, Brunson and Clay Dickinson all had doubles.  The JV team is now 7-3-1.

The Varsity team prevailed in extra innings after losing a late lead.  The Panthers jumped on the Highlanders early scoring two on an RBI double by Joseph Sightler.  The added a third run in the 3rd innings on an RBI triple by Sightler.  The game remained scoreless until the sixth when the Highlanders scored a single run.  The Highlanders added two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to send it into extra innings.  In the top of the eighth inning, the Panthers fought back scoring a run on an error by the Highlanders second baseman and then they retired the Highlander batters 1,2,3 in the bottom of the frame to win the game.  Joseph Sightler ended the game with three hits and three RBI’s.  Alex Blevins added two singles to the Panther cause.  Logan Dickinson started the game on the mound for PAC.  He kept Heathwood off balance all night, not allowing the first hit until the fifth inning.  He ended his night in the seventh inning with runners on first and second.  Logan gave up four hits and struck out three and one earned run.  Thomas Castles came in to help close the seventh and pitched a scoreless eighth inning to earn the win.  The Panthers are now 6-5.

Baseball Loses Twin Bill Against Wilson Hall

The JV team lost to the Barons of Wilson Hall 12-5 on Monday night. The tone of this game was completely different from the 1-1, eight inning classic played last week.  Trevor Dacus took the loss on the mound, pitching three and one third innings.  He gave up six earned runs while striking out seven and allowing nine hits.  Caleb Wilson finished the game on the mound and gave up one earned run on two hits.  Panther batters were led by Jacob Cain and Anderson Blevins who both had two hits.   The JV team is now 6-3-1.

The varsity team lost 13-3.  Alex Goodwin took the loss on the mound hurling two innings.  He gave up four earned runs on seven hits.  Josh Hanna and Alex Blevins both pitched as well.  Josh gave up two earned runs on two hits and Alex gave up three earned runs on three hits.  Joseph Sightler led the team with two hits including a double.  The varsity team is now 5-5.
