Panthers Split with Generals

In the last game of the 2012 season for the Panthers junior varsity and varsity baseball teams, the Panthers earned a split with the Generals from Thomas Sumter Academy.  The jv team won 16-2 to run their final record to 19-5-1 for the year.  Jacob Cain earned the win on the mound; pitching two innings, allowing one hit while striking out two.  James Reed toed the rubber for one inning striking out all three batters he faced.  Drew Hankins pitched one inning; allowing two hits and one run.  Drew struck out two.  Pat Brunson pitched the last inning giving up one run.  At the plate, the Panthers ran wild against the Generals.  They scored five runs in the first inning; one run in the second; eight runs in the third; and two more runs in the fourth.  Anderson Blevins was the only Panther player with multiple hits, knocking three singles.  Others with hits included Caleb Wilson, Jacob Cain, Clay Dickinson, James Reed, Cole Owens and Pat Brunson.  Clay’s hit was a double.  Clay had two rbi’s on the night.  Congratulations on another great year.

In the last game of the 2012 season for the Panthers junior varsity and varsity baseball teams, the Panthers earned a split with the Generals from Thomas Sumter Academy.  The varsity team lost their game 5-7 evening their record at 13-13 on the season.  Alex Goodwin started the game on the mound for the Panthers and pitched four and one third innings before tiring.  He allowed three earned runs on four hits.  He struck out five batters and walked two.  Joseph Sightler relieved Alex in the fourth inning and ended up taking the loss.  He pitched two and two thirds innings giving up four runs, three of which were earned, on three hits.  He struck out one and walked two.  The Panthers took the lead in the bottom of the second inning when they plated one run on a rbi single by Alex Blevins scoring Joseph Sightler from second.  The Generals marched back into the game by scoring two runs in the top of the third inning.  After two quick outs, the Generals pitcher singled to left field.  Another single, plated one run when the Panther left fielder let a ball get by him. The Generals scored another run on the third straight hit of the inning.  Thomas Sumter added another run in the fourth inning when a lead-off walk and a steal put a runner at second.  The next batter stroked a single into left center scoring the run.  Both teams were quiet until the bottom of the fifth when the Panthers scratched back into the scoring column plating two runs.  Jonathan Liva reached on an infield error and Reese Hankins walked.  After a strikeout, Thomas Castles lined a single to left center scoring one run and advancing Daniel Reed (courtesy runner for Reese) to third base.  Danny Morales then hit a sacrifice fly to center field scoring Daniel from third.  The Generals scored run in the top of the sixth inning when they took advantage of a walk and a double.  The Panthers responded in the bottom of the frame by scoring two more runs.  After a fly out to center field, Josh Hanna and Alex Blevins hit back to back singles.  Reese Hankins lofted a fly ball of right field which the Generals right fielder dropped for an error allowing Josh to score from second.  Matthew Lord then stroked a clutch two out single scoring Alex from third and giving the Panthers their first lead of the night.  Unfortunately, the Generals scored three runs in the top of the seventh inning to win the game.   They took advantage of a walk, and two singles to load the bases.  A ground out scored the first run of the inning for the Generals and then an error in a run down situation allowed two more runs to score.  The Panthers could not get anything going in the bottom of the inning and so the game and their season ended.  For the game, the Panthers had seven hits; two by Alex Blevins (both singles).  Others with hits included Matthew Lord, Thomas Castles, Josh Hanna, Danny Morales, and Joseph Sightler.  Panther batters with rbi’s included Thomas, Danny, Alex and Matthew.
