Panther Middle School Baseball Claws Cardinal Newman

The Panther Middle School team evened its record on the year to 1-1 with a victory against the Cardinals from Cardinal Newman.  The Panthers struck first when they plated three runs in the first inning.  Matthew Derrick was hit by a pitch with two outs.  Noah Squires singled driving in Matthew who had stolen second base.  Jacob Robinson was walked and Caleb Green drove in both Noah and Jacob with a single to left field.  The Panthers added two more runs in the third inning taking advantage of a single by Tyler Thomason and two Cardinal errors.  Two more Panthers (Robinson and Green) scored in the fourth on one hit.  The two runs per inning theme for the Panthers continued in the fifth when Tyler scored on a triple by Matthew Derrick who was later driven in by Caleb Green.  The Panthers put the game away in the sixth when they scored their last five runs.  The highlight of the inning was a two RBI double by Noah Squires.  Matthew Derrick pitched four innings to get the win.  He allowed two unearned runs, two walks and three hits.  He struck out six.  Noah Squires pitched two innings allowing six runs, only one of which was earned.  He gave up one hit but walked five.  He struck out one.  Caleb Green pitched the final inning, allowing no hits or runs.  He struck out one.
