Panther JV Baseball Grounds SkyHawks

Panthers (JV)  13                              Hammond  6

The Panther JV baseball squad avenged an earlier defeat by grounding the Skyhawks from Hammond 13-6 on Wednesday night.  After spotting the Skyhawks one run in the top of the first, the Panthers came roaring out of the gate and plated five of their own.    Cole Owens got everything going by hitting a single after which he was sacrificed to second by Anderson Blevins.  Cal Hucks then hit a long double scoring Cole.  Cal later scored on a wild pitch.  JC Ellis then singled and then back to back walks loaded the bases for Daniel Barfield.  Daniel hit a single scoring one run.  A walk to Cole Plyler loaded the bases again and then Cole Owens, batting for the second time in the inning drew a walk scoring the last run of the inning.  Neither team scored in the 2nd inning.  In the 3rd, after the Skyhawks went 1-2-3, the Panthers scored another five runs essentially putting the game out of reach.  Daniel Barfield led off with a walk and promptly stole second base.  Carson Floyd hit a long double to center field to drive in Daniel.  Cole Plyler walked and then Cole Owens hit a triple to left center plating two runs.  Anderson drove in Cole when he reached base safely on an error by the Skyhawk shortstop.  Anderson was later driven in by a groundout by Danny Waller.  Patrick Brunson the starting pitcher for the Panthers tired after five innings and was relieved by Anderson Blevins who struggled to find the strike zone.  After walking the bases loaded, a hit, another walk and some defensive let downs let the Skyhawks get back into the game temporarily by scoring five runs of their own.  The Panthers neutralized the effect of some of those runs by getting three runs back in the bottom of the 6th.  Cole Owens drove in two with a single and later scored on a double by Cal Hucks.  The Skyhawks loaded the bases in the top of the 7th but a grounder back to the pitcher allowed the pitcher (Danny Waller) allowed him to throw home for one out and the catcher (Cole Owens) then threw on to first for a second out; a 1-2-3 double play.  For the game, Cole Owens led the way with three hits, including a triple, and five RBI’s.  Cal Hucks added two doubles and drove in two runs Pat Brunson had two singles.  Carson Floyd slammed a double to deep center field.  Pat Brunson was the starting pitcher for the Panthers going five innings allowing four runs, only which one of was earned.  He struck out seven and walked six and allowed one hit.  Anderson Blevins went 2/3 of an inning allowing two unearned runs.  He walked four.  Danny Waller finished the game on the mound of the Panthers going the final 1 1/3 innings.  He allowed no runs, one hit and two walks.  The Panthers are off until Friday when they will play Keenan at Bray Park.  They are now 12-7-1 for the year.
