The Panthers varsity baseball team journeyed to Taylors, South Carolina on a very cold Tuesday night to play the Upstate Eagles. The Panthers jumped out to a commanding lead by scoring four in the first inning. Two straight Eagle errors to open the game put the two Panther batters on base. One scored when Alex Blevins hit a RBI double to right center field. After a strikeout, single runs scored on three consecutive Panther at bats. Clay knocked in the second run of the inning by clubbing a base hit to left center field. Jake Brunson then hit an infield single scoring Alex from third. James Reed knocked in the last run for the Panthers when he hit into a fielder’s choice. The Panthers plated two more runs in the second inning when Anderson Blevins singled with one out. He scored on a single by Caleb Wilson. Caleb then scored on a hit by Sean West. The Panthers added three more in the third inning. James Reed who reached base when he was hit by a pitch scored on a double by Trevor Dacus. Trevor scored on a double by Anderson Blevins and Anderson later scored on a passed ball. The Panthers plated one more in the fourth when James Reed scored on another double by Trevor Dacus and one more in the fifth when JC Ellis doubled and later scored on a single by Clay Dickinson. The Panthers pounded out fourteen hits in scoring their eleven runs. They were led by Clay Dickinson who went 4-4 and drove in two runs. Trevor Dacus had two doubles and two RBI’s. Anderson Blevins also had two hits, slapping out a single and a double. He also drove in one run and scored three. Daniel Reed got the win on the mound. He pitched three solid innings giving up two hits, while striking out two and allowing no walks or runs. The faced the minimum number of batters over those three innings. JC Ellis pitched the final two frames, preserving the shutout. He struck out five Eagle hitters while allowing one hit. The Panthers are now 2-0 on the season.
