Panther Baseball Glad not Playing Another Bird of Prey, Beat Crusaders from Northside

The Panthers got back in the victory column with a 9-4 victory over Northside Christian at Bray Park on Friday night. The Crusaders struck first, plating one run in the top of the first inning when the Crusaders staged a two out rally.  The Crusaders struck again in the bottom of the second (again with two outs) when they scored three runs.  A walk and two singles loaded the bases and a triple by Will Koerner plated all three runs.

The Panthers roared back in the bottom of the fourth inning to tie the game. James Reed hit a triple to begin the inning and scored on a sacrifice fly by Matthew Derrick.  With two outs, Caleb Green drew a walk to get on base.  John Edens and Avery Blevins hit back to back singles with Caleb scoring on Avery’s hit.  John Edens stole third and scored when the Crusader catcher’s throw sailed into left field.  Avery scored when Alex McKay reached base on an error.

The Panthers took the lead in the fifth inning. McKinley drew a walk to begin the inning and promptly stole second base.  He advanced to third on an error by the Crusader third baseman which allowed James Reed to reach base.  McKinley scored on a sacrifice fly by Matthew Derrick (this was Matthew’s second RBI of the game).  James scored on an error by the Crusader center fielder which allowed Caleb to reach base safely.

The sixth inning saw the Panthers score their last runs and push the lead to 9-4. Alex McKay was hit by a pitch with one out.  He stole second base and scored when Parker Pocock singled.  Parker scored on a single by James Reed.   James later scored on an error by the Crusader left fielder.

Parker Pocock was the starting pitcher for PAC. He pitched two innings, allowing four runs (three earned).  He allowed six hits while striking out two.  He was replaced by John Edens (1-0) who earned the victory pitching three innings.  He did not allow any runs on one hit.  He walked two and struck out two.  James Reed pitched the final two innings not allowing a run or a hit. He struck out three.

Game Notes: The Panthers had seventeen productive at bats. Parker Pocock had two hits and scored on run.  James Reed had a triple and a single and scored three runs.  Matthew Derrick had two RBI’s.  The Panther’s record improved to 2-3.
