Panther Baseball Defeats York Prep

Panthers  11                                       York Prep  3

The Panther Varsity squad returned to the win column yesterday with an 11-3 victory over the Patriots of York Prep.  York Prep entered the contest with a younger squad so in the interest of fair play, the Panthers sat some of their older players giving some of the younger guys a chance to shine.  The Panthers jumped out to a quick start in the 1st inning when Jacob Brunson slapped a two out single driving in two runs.  The Panthers sent home four more runs in the top of the second with Caleb Wilson, James Reed, Jacob Cain and Alex Blevins all driving in runs.  After a quiet 3rd inning, the Panthers plated single runs in the 4th and 5th innings with Jacob Cain and Caleb Wilson collecting RBI’s.  Alex Blevins hit a three run homerun in the 6th inning taking advantage of a short porch in right center to end the scoring for the Panthers.  For the game, the visiting Panthers had fourteen hits.  Caleb Wilson had three hits including a double.  Jacob Cain, Alex Blevins and Jacob Brunson all had two hits with Jacob Cain knocking a double and Alex slamming a double and the homerun.  Trevor Dacus started on the mound for Providence allowing no runs and two hits.  He struck out five and did not walk a batter.  The Panthers put Bryan Wilson on the mound in the 4th inning and it took him a little while to get going.  He walked three batters in that 4th inning and hit another.  A fielding error helped prolong the inning for the Patriots and they ended up scoring three runs but only one was earned.  Bryan settled down in the 5th and 6th innings allowing no runs and only two base runners.  Caleb Wilson came on to finish the game in the 7th inning.  He allowed one single before striking out the Patriot pitcher to end the game.  The Panther varsity squad is now 5-4 on the season.
