PAC Runners competing in Track

On Saturday afternoon, the 2022 Outdoor Track season began at the Dorman Distance Carnival at Dorman High School in Spartanburg. PAC Cross Country athletes, John McPherson and Tyler Seay, took part in the middle school mile event. This year is John’s 2nd track season and Tyler’s first and they ran under PAC XC Coach Trey McCain’s Without Limits club team.
The goal for John was to break the elusive 6 minute mile barrier he couldn’t overcome last season when he finished with a 6:12 personal record. He needed to average under 1:30 per lap to achieve his goal. The first lap saw John come through in 1:29. On pace. The second lap has always been the most difficult for John b/c he couldn’t tell he was slowing down. He came through lap 2 with a 1:38. 3:07 through two laps. The third lap went by in 1:29 for a total time of 4:25. With one lap left, young John would need to run 1:23 to finish in 5:59. He ran a 1:17 to finish in 5:55. This is a 17 second PR for the one mile.
Running in the same race was newbie Tyler Seay. The goal was to establish an understanding of his current fitness and see what happens as the race goes on. Tylers first lap was run in 1:35. He slowed down a bit in lap two, coming through with a lap time of 1:41, a 6 second slow down and 3:16 half mile time. Lap three was run in 1:41. Consistent effort and now at a total time of 4:57 after three laps. For the final lap, Tyler picked up the pace again and crossed the line in 6:33 and a lap split of 1:36.
Their next race will be the 3200 Meter Run/ 2 Mile at Pelion on March 9.
