PAC Baseball Loses Two to Hammond

Panthers (JV)  1                                Hammond  4

The Panthers lost to the Skyhawks in a close game at beautiful Skyhawks field.  Pat Brunson pitched all six innings for the visiting Panthers.  He gave up six hits, walked five and struck out five over those six innings.  All four runs charged to Pat were earned.  The Panthers had six hits led by Daniel Barfield with two singles.  JC Ellis hit a deep charge that short hopped the centerfield fence for a double.  Pat Brunson, Cal Hucks and Cole Owens all chipped in hits as well in the Panther cause.  Cole Owens scored the lone run for the Panthers in the 4th inning when he scored on the single by Cal Hucks.

Panthers  2                         Hammond  4

The Panther bats remained quiet for another game and it cost them a chance to beat Hammond for the first time at the Varsity level.  The Panthers scratched out five scattered hits with Danny Morales and Josh Hanna both accounting for two singles a-piece.  Jake Brunson hit a line drive single in the 4th inning for the only other hit.  The Panthers wasted a beautiful opportunity to blow the game open early when they loaded the bases on two walks and a single.  They only managed one run which scored when Danny Morales was hit by a pitch.  The bases were still loaded with no outs but the Panther batters only managed two strikeouts and a pop up to the second baseman.  The Panthers went with a different strategy in the game by pitching a slower velocity pitcher who threw a lot (I mean a lot) of breaking balls.  Daniel Reed did a tremendous job and managed to keep the Skyhawk batters off balance all night scattering six hits and walking two.  He gave up two earned runs in his six innings of work.   Hammond scored three of their runs in the 3rd inning on two hits, a hit batsman and an error.  The Varsity squad is now 0-3.
