Middle School Baseball Falls to Northside

The Panthers lost to Northside Academy in the inaugural middle school game for the Panthers.  The Panthers fell behind early allowing the Knights to score seven runs in the second inning.  The Knights slammed seven hits including one double and an inside the park home run.  The Knights added a single runs in the third and fourth innings before the Panthers dented the scoreboard for the first time in the fourth inning.  With two outs, William Lawyer doubled.  Consecutive singles by Jacob Robinson and Cal Hucks pushed the first run across. The second scored on an error by the Knights third baseman on a drive by Avery Blevins.  David Hucks knocked in the final two runs of the inning with a single to center field.  The Knights recovered some of their lead by plating two runs in the top of the fifth taking advantage of a Panther error and two hits.  The Panthers pushed another run across in the bottom of the frame when Matthew Derrick led off with a double and later scored on a balk.  The Knights and the Panthers traded single runs in the sixth; Noah Squires scoring for the Panthers after leading off with a  single and scoring on a single by Danny Waller.  The Knights added one more run in the top of the seventh.  The Panthers tried to complete their rally but fell short when they only plated one run in the last inning.  Tyler Thomason led off with a single and later scored on an error by the Knight’s second baseman.  For the game, Panther batters slammed out thirteen hits.  Jacob Robinson led the way with three singles, reaching base all four times he was up to bat.  David Hucks, William Lawyer and Tyler Thomason all contributed two singles with David driving in three runs.  Danny Waller was the starting hurler for the Panthers.  He lasted three innings, giving up eight runs, seven of which were earned.  He allowed one hits, walked one and struck out three.  He was replaced by William Lawyer on the mound who went the final four innings.  He allowed five runs, two earned, five hits and three walks.  He struck out one.  Avery Blevins played stellar defense at second recording four putouts and two assists.  The Panther middle school team is now 0-1.
