Baseball Splits with Augusta Christian

The JV team won another game beating Augusta Christian 3-0 behind a superlative pitching effort from Trevor Dacus.  Trevor pitched a seven inning shutout.  He gave up eight hits, struck out five and walked two.  The Panthers played stellar defense behind Dacus with Clay Dickinson, Caleb Wilson and Anderson Blevins all having multiple assists.  The Panthers were led at the plate by Cole Owens who had three hits.  Anderson Blevins and Clay Dickinson both had two hits.  Clay, Cal Hucks and Daniel Barfield all had one RBI.  The JV team is now 9-3-1.

The Varsity team lost a heartbreaker 8-7 in extra innings on a two run homer by the Lions in the bottom of the eighth inning.  After scoring three runs in the second inning, the Panthers fell behind after the Lions plated five in the bottom of the frame. One of the Lions hits was a two run homer by Matt Herzwurm.  The Lions added a single run in the fourth.  The Panthers responded by scoring two in the fifth on a two run homer by Danny Morales.  After a scoreless sixth inning, the Panthers scored one run in the seventh to tie the game.  Alex Blevins led off with a single and went from 1st to 3rd on a sacrifice bunt by Josh Hanna.  Danny Morales hit a shallow fly ball that was caught in right field, but the right fielder made an errant throw allowing Alex to score from 3rd.  After holding the Lions scoreless in the bottom of the seventh, the game entered extra innings.  The Panthers plated one run in the top of the inning taking advantage of an error by the Lions second baseman.  The Lions leadoff hitter hit a single to start the bottom of the seventh when Matt Herzwurm gave up again.  He hit a walk off two run home run to end the game.  For the day the Danny Morales and Joseph Sightler both had two hits with Danny’s hits including the aforementioned homerun and a double. Danny had three RBI’s on the day.  Three Panther hurlers toed the rubber against the Lions.  They were Logan Dickinson (five earned runs, seven hits and one strikeout), Joseph Sightler (one earned run, four hits and one strikeout) and Thomas Castles (two earned runs and five hits).  The Varsity team is now 6-7.
