Panther Baseball (JV) falls to Heathwood

Panthers (JV) – 5              Heathwood Hall – 6

The Panther JV baseball squad lost a close one to Heathwood Hall on Wednesday at Heathwood. The Panthers spotted the Highlanders to a five run lead in the first inning.  Three straight free passes loaded the bases for the Highlanders and then a clutch hit scored two of the runs.  Errors allowed the other runs to score.  The Highlanders added a single insurance run in the bottom of the fourth inning when a Highlander was hit by a pitch and eventually scored on a single.

The Panthers were silent until the fifth inning when they exploded for five runs to draw within one run. Avery Blevins led off with a single.  He advanced to third on wild pitches and scored on a single by Billy Amick.  Billy took advantage of an error by the Highlander right fielder to advance all the way to second.  Billy then scored on a single by David Hucks.  David advance to second on the throw home and later scored on a wild pitch.  Samuel Leslie and Zach Thurber drew walks against Highlander pitching with Samuel scoring on a single by McKinley Proctor and Zach scoring on a single by Whit Melnyk.

The Panthers tried to score the tying run over the final two innings but the rallies fell short and the Highlanders won the game. The Panthers had eleven hits in their loss.  Samuel Leslie had three singles.  Avery and David chipped in with two hits apiece.

Samuel Leslie was the starter for PAC and pitched three innings. He settled in and pitched well in the second and third innings after struggling in the first.  He allowed six runs (five earned) on one hit.  He struck out one.  White Melnyk finished the game for PAC, pitching the final three innings.  He gave up one hit but did not allow a hit.

The loss drops the JV team’s record to 3-8
