Panthers (B-Team) – 7 Hammond – 13
The young Panthers lost to Hammond 13-7 on Thursday night at Bray Park in a game that was interrupted after the sixth inning by a torrential downpour. The Panthers started slow, allowing Hammond to plate nine runs in the first inning and they were never able to recover.
As stated previously, the Skyhawks jumped on the Panthers early by scoring nine runs. They had five hits in this rally but the story was really about the Skyhawks taking advantage of four hit batters, one walk and an error. Each of the Panther team’s has had to learn (usually the hard way) that bad things happen if you allow opposing batters to reach base safely without earning it. Hammond added one run in the second inning, two in the third and one in the fourth to get to thirteen runs. Overall, Hammond had fifteen hits.
The Panthers plated one run in the first when Will Owens singled and scored on a single by Billy Amick. They added another run in the second inning when Ethan walked and eventually scored on a balk. They added a third run in the third when Billy tripled and scored on a single by Justin Thurber. The Panthers scored two in the fourth when Cameron Duke and Andrew French were walked and scored. Josh Quill scored in the fifth when he reached base via a fielder’s choice and scored on a Skyhawks error. They scored their final run in the sixth when Billy singled and scored on a sacrifice fly by Micaiah Hinkle.
Game Notes: The Panther B-Team’s record falls to 8-6. The Panthers had eight hits in the contest with Billy leading the way with three, including a triple. Billy also scored two runs. Will and Cameron also had two hits each.
