Panthers Lose Two in Charlotte Tournament

Panthers (B-Team) – 4                   Charlotte Stampede – 13

The Panthers B-Team travelled to Charlotte for tournament play on Saturday.  In their first game, they squared off with the Charlotte Stampede and came out on the losing end 4-13 throwing the Panthers into the consolation bracket.  As has happened so many times, the Panthers struck first but were unable to hold the lead.  Avery Blevins led off the game with a single to left center field.  Whit Melnyk reached on an error and McKinley Proctor then slammed a double to left center scoring both Avery and Whit.  McKinley later scored on a ground out by Samuel Leslie.  The Stampede got one run back in the bottom of the first but really did their damage in the bottom of the second.  In the second, the Stampede sent eleven batters to the plate, slammed seven hits and scored seven runs.  The Stampede extended their lead by scoring single runs in the third, fourth and fifth innings.  The Panthers scored their last run in the sixth inning when Will Owens singled, advanced to third on a single by Robert Hogg and scored on a single by Seann Bryant.  The Stampede scored their final two runs in the bottom of the sixth and the Panthers were unable to mount a comeback in the seventh so the game ended in a loss.  The Panthers had eight hits in the game.  Avery, Robert and Seann all had two hits to lead the Panthers at the plate.  McKinley had two RBI’s.  David Hucks started the game on the mound for the Panthers lasting three innings.  He allowed nine runs, six of which were earned.    He gave up nine hits and walked five Stampede batters.  He was replaced on the mound by Jackson Gleaton.  Jackson pitched three innings, allowing four runs (three earned) on three hits and three walks.  The B-Team is now 2-9.

Panthers (B-Team) – 2                   Concord Stallions – 13

The Panthers lost in the consolation game to the Concord Stallions on Saturday 2-13.  The Panthers again struck first, plating two runs in the first inning.  Whit Melnyk drew a walk and scored on a triple by McKinley Proctor.  David Hucks singled driving McKinley home and the Panthers had a 2-0 lead.  Unfortunately, the Panthers were done scoring and the Stallions were just getting started.  They scored one run in the first but then effectively ended the game by scoring eleven runs in the third.  They scored their last run in the fourth.  For the game, the Stallions outhit the Panthers 10-4.  McKinley, David, Thomas Weaver and Seann Bryant had the only hits for the Panthers.  The Panthers B-Team are now 2-10.
