In what is probably the swan song for the Panther – Lower Richland series, the Panthers left on a very, very, very high note beating the Lower Richland team 20-2. The JV team set a high water mark for runs scored in a game (and inning (14)) as the score more closely resembled a football game score than baseball. Remind me to talk to Coach Thad about who was responsible for missing the last extra point! JC Ellis led off for the Panthers on the mound as he hurled the first two innings. He allowed two hits and two runs; striking out two. Cal Hucks pitched innings three and four and allowed one hit and no runs. Anderson Blevins pitched the final inning but gave his coaches heartburn, just like he did in a game at Heathwood Hall earlier this year. He allowed no runs but walked the bases loaded before he mercifully ended the game with a strikeout. His final line was no hits or runs, three walks and two strikeouts. The Panthers pounded out sixteen hits against Lower Richland and received seven free passes as well by either earning a walk or being hit by a pitch. Only three Panther players did not have a hit during this game. One player only had one at bat and they were plunked by a pitch; the second player did not have an at bat; and the third player, was not at the game. It was exciting to see players who have been patiently waiting for their opportunity on the field not only get that opportunity but to shine in their moment. Danny Waller went two for three, scored two runs and had two rbi’s. Parker Pocock went one for three, scored twice and knocked in one run. Drew Hankins and Daniel Barfield also went one for three and both scored two runs. Drew Hankins also had two rbi’s. Cal Hucks led the overall hit parade hitting three singles, scoring two runs and driving in two runs. Other Panther players with multiple hits were Anderson Blevins and Jacob Cain. Both of these players also had two rbi’s and Jacob’s hits included a double. The Panther JV squad is now 15-5-1.
