The Panthers travelled to Eau Claire to visit the Shamrocks for two five inning games on Wednesday night. The first game was a close affair that the visiting Panthers managed to pull out in the fifth inning winning 6-3. The Panthers scored first when Jacob Robinson scored on a wild pitch after reaching base on a walk. The Panthers added another in the third inning when Matthew Derrick singled and scored on a long double by Danny Waller. The Shamrocks fought back to tie the game in the fourth inning, plating two runs with one hit, a hit by a pitch and a Panther error. The Panthers righted the ship and scored four runs in the last inning to essentially put the game away. Tyler Thomason led off the inning with a single and Matthew Derrick walked. Danny hit a second consecutive double scoring Tyler. William Lawyer came to the plate with runners on second and third and smashed a double to score two runs. William advanced to third on a single by Caleb Green and scored on a Shamrock error. The Panthers left the bases full when the Shamrocks recorded the final two outs on a strikeout and on an infield fly. The Shamrocks managed to score one run in the bottom of the fifth but it was not enough and the game ended with the Panthers as victors. The Panthers had seven hits and were led by Danny Waller who had two doubles and two RBI’s. William Lawyer also had two RBI’s. Tyler Thomason was the starting pitcher for the Panthers lasting three and one third innings. He gave up two runs (only one of which was earned) on two hits. He did not walk a batter and struck out two. William Lawyer finished the game on the mound for PAC, giving up one earned run on one hit. He struck out four.
In the second game, the Panthers jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead in the first inning and never looked back in winning 9-0. Matthew Derrick walked and scored on a single by Danny Waller. William Lawyer was walked and both Danny and William scored later in the inning on wild pitches. The Panthers essentially ended the game in the second inning when they plated five additional runs. Both Zach Thurber and Tyler Thomason both reached due to Shamrock errors. Zach scored on a single by Matthew. After a walk to Danny, Matthew scored on a bunt single by William Lawyer. Danny scored on a wild pitch and William scored on another Shamrock error to close out the scoring in the second inning. In the third inning, the Panthers plated their final run when Tyler reached on a single and later scored on a wild pitch. The Panthers slapped out five hits for the game. Danny led the way with two singles. William Lawyer pitched the first three innings for PAC, allowing no runs and only one hit. He had seven strikeouts. Austin Coates pitched the final inning for PAC and allowed one hit. He walked two and struck out two. The Panther JV team is now 6-3.
