Panthers drop JV and Varsity Baseball Games against Gray Collegiate Academy

Panthers (JV) – 1              Gray Collegiate Academy – 16

The young Panther JV squad absorbed a body blow from Gray Collegiate Academy on Monday night at Bray Park losing 16-1. Gray Collegiate outhit the Panthers 11-2 while Panther pitching allowed seven free passes and Panther fielding committed five errors.  You add all that up and the result is not very pretty for Panther fans.

This seems to be a good time to remind everyone that while the Panther Junior Varsity squad has some talented players, they are, overall, a young team starting three to five eighth graders on any given night so they are going to have some nights like this.

Gray Collegiate scored three runs in the first, two in the second, four in the third and seven runs in the fourth to end the game. White and Elijah Britton had the only two hits for the Panthers with Whit scoring on a passed ball.

Game Notes: The JV squad is now 1-2 on the year.

Panthers (V) – 5               Gray Collegiate Academy – 13

The Panther Varsity baseball team dropped a contest against Gray Collegiate Academy on Monday night at Bray Park by a score of 13-5.  Gray Collegiate scored two in the top of the first inning on the strength of two doubles and a single.  They added another run in the third when a runner reached via a walk, later scoring on a double play (Blevins-Plyer-Reed).  Things then really fell apart for the Panthers in the fifth and sixth innings when they allowed Gray Collegiate to plate four and six runs respectively.

The Panthers scored a single run in the fifth when Eli Williams doubled, later scoring on a wild pitch. They continued to try and fight back by plating another four runs in the sixth.  James Reed, Daniel Williams, Eli, Cole and Parker had hits in the rally.  Eli’s hit was a double that knocked in two runs.

John Edens was the starting pitcher for the Panthers and he pitched very well against a good hitting team over three innings before tiring in the fourth. In the first three innings he gave up three earned runs.  He gave up another four in the fourth inning.  He was relieved by Carson Floyd who gave up six unearned runs on three hits.  Tyler Thomason pitched the last inning allowing no hits or runs.

Game Notes: The loss drops the varsity baseball team to 5-2. John Edens(0-1)  took the loss.  The Panthers had 10 productive at bats.  The Panthers take to the field again on Tuesday night against Northside Academy at Bray Park.  Game time is 6:00.
