Panthers Baseball Up Ends Orangeburg Prep

The Panthers found their way into the win column for the second time this year with a victory over the Indians from Orangeburg Prep on Thursday night.  The Indians took a quick lead in the first inning when the lead-off batter was hit by a pitch, eventually scoring on an infield groundout.  The Panthers tied the game up in the bottom of the second inning when Samuel Leslie singled and scored on a single by Robert Hogg.  The Panthers added two runs in the third inning.  McKinley Proctor, David Hucks and Jackson Gleaton all singled with one out with Jackson’s single scoring McKinley.  Will Owens singled to score David from third.  The Panthers added to their lead by plating two more runs in the fifth inning.  Jackson reached on an error and scored on a single by Will Owens.  Will then scored when Robert reached on an error.  In the sixth inning, the Panthers scored two runs for the third inning in a row.  Whit Melnyk led off with a triple and scored when McKinley followed Whit’s triple with one of his own.  McKinley then scored on a ground out by David Hucks.  The Indians scored one run in the top of the seventh but it was not enough and the game ended with a Panthers victory.    The Panthers had ten hits in the game. Whit and McKinley both hit a single and a triple.  Robert contributed two singles.  McKinley pitched four innings for the Panthers allowing one earned run.  He allowed one hit and walked four.  He struck out two.  Jackson pitched the final three innings, also allowing one earned run.  He gave up one hit and walked one while striking out two.  The B-Team improved to 2-8.
