Panthers (B-Team) – 12 Wilson Hall – 5
Panthers B-Team baseball won a game against Wilson Hall by a score of 12-5 at Bray Park on Thursday night. The home team Panthers struck early by plating two runs in the bottom of the first. Will Owens singled to begin the Panthers half of the frame and advanced to third when Avery Blevins reached on an error. Avery stole second to put runners at 2nd and 3rd with no outs. Cameron Duke singled to knock in Will and Avery scored later in the inning. The Panthers scored a single run in the bottom of the second when Ethan Hucks singled and eventually scored on a single by Justin Thurber.
The visiting Baron’s fought back in the third by plating two runs. The Panthers got one of those runs back in the bottom of the 3rd when Billy Amick reached on a fielder’s choice; eventually scoring on a balk by the Baron’s pitcher. The Barons continue to fight back and scored two runs in the top of the fourth inning taking advantage of two hits, two errors and a walk. The bottom of the fourth is where the Panthers put the game out of reach of the Barons. With one out, Will and Avery hit back to back singles with Avery’s hit scoring Will. Avery promptly stole second base and then Cameron was hit by a pitch. Andrew French drew a walk to load the bases for Billy. Billy singled to score Avery from third, leaving the bases loaded once again. Ethan drew a walk to score Cameron and then Andrew scored on a wild pitch to close out the scoring in the fourth.
The fifth inning began with the Panthers holding a 8-4 lead. The Panthers added two more runs in the fifth with Cameron and Andrew picking up RBI’s. The Barons scored on in the top of the sixth and the Panthers scored their last two runs in the bottom of the sixth.
Game Notes: The Panthers outhit the Barons 11-4 with the Panthers having 22 productive at bats. Panthers with multiple hits included Owens (2), Blevins (2) and French (2). Duke had two RBI’s. Blevins pitched two innings allowing two unearned runs. He did not allow a hit and struck out two. Hucks pitched two innings, also allowing two unearned runs. He gave up three hits and struck out one. Whit Melnyk finished the game on the mound pitching the final two innings. He allowed one earned run on one hit. He struck out one. The B-Team’s record is 2-2.
