Panther Varsity Baseball Team Hunts Down Thomas Sumter Academy

Panthers  8                         Thomas Sumter Academy  4

The Panthers and the Generals played a good game tonight at the General’s home field.  The Panthers struck early in the game plating one run when Alex Blevins and Danny Morales hit back to back doubles with Alex scoring on Danny’s hit.  The Generals tied the game in the bottom of the frame when a walk came back to haunt the Panthers on a triple that was scorched to deep (DEEP) centerfield.    The Panthers scored another run in the top of the second when Jake Brunson doubled to left center and scored on a two base error by the General center fielder.  After holding the Generals scoreless in the bottom of the second, the Panthers plated another run when Alex was walked and scored on a double by the Panther catcher, Sean West.  Thomas Sumter scored in the bottom of the 3rd frame when another base on balls hurt the Panthers again.  A walk sandwiched between two routine outs was followed by two hit batsmen and another walk.  The Panthers were silent in the 4th and 5th innings but the Generals scored in the 5th to tie the game up on the seldom seen steal of home.  It was the top of the 6th inning that saw the Panther bats finally come alive.  The Panthers pounded five straight hits in the inning and ended up scoring five runs.  Sean West hit a triple driving in two runs in the outburst and Josh Hanna also had a RBI single.  Others with hits in the inning included Caleb Wilson (who opened the hit floodgates), Alex Blevins and Danny Morales.  For the game, four Panther batters had two hits lead by Sean West with his triple and double.  Trevor Dacus and Josh Hanna toed the rubber for the Panthers.  Trevor went 2 2/3 innings allowing two hits and two earned runs.  Josh Hanna finished the game on the mound, pitching 4 1/3 innings giving up one hit and one earned run.  He struck out seven and walked three.  The Varsity squad is now 1-3 and feeling better about themselves.
