Panthers (V) 16                 Upstate Guardians 6

On Saturday, March 22nd, the varsity Panthers clashed with another homeschool team when they met the Easley Guardians for the first time on the diamond.  In the first game of the doubleheader, the Guardians scored two without the benefit of a hit in the first taking advantage of four walks and an error.  The Guardian pitchers kept the Panthers off of the scoreboard through two innings but eventually the Panther bats began to come to life.  In the third inning, the Panthers exploded for four runs.  James Reed opened the inning with a double.  After Alex Blevins was hit by a pitch, Clay Dickinson singled to load the bases.  Jake Brunson drove in the first Panthers run with a ground out to the Guardian shortstop (Becker).  Pat Brunson slammed a triple to right center scoring two more runs; scoring on the play on an error on the Guardian right fielder.  The Panthers continued their run barrage by scoring an additional three runs in the fourth.  Anderson Blevins reached on an error and then James Reed walked.  With one out, Sean West doubled scoring both Anderson and James but Sean was thrown out trying to stretch his hit into a triple.  After Clay Dickinson walked, Jake Brunson slammed a triple scoring Clay from second.  The Guardians tried to fight back in the fifth inning and plated four runs on two hits, two walks, a hit batter and a Panthers error.  The Panthers essentially put the game away in the fifth when they scored another seven runs.  The Panthers held the Guardians scoreless again in the sixth and the game ended when the Panthers scored two more runs in the bottom of the frame.  For the game, Alex Blevins and Jake Brunson both had two hits.  Panthers with multiple RBI’s include Anderson (2), Sean (3), Jake (5) and Pat (3).  Trevor Dacus was the starting pitcher but struggled with his control walking eight batters in three and one third innings.  He was able to minimize the damage however, only allowing two runs one of which was earned.  Sean West pitched one and two thirds innings allowing four runs; two earned.  He walked three, struck out three and allowed two hits.  Daniel Reed finished the game on the mound pitching one inning allowing no runs on one hit. With the win, the Panthers improved to 7-1 on the season.
