Panther Middle School Baseball Falls to Cardinals

Panthers (MS) 1                               Cardinal Newman 12

The Panther Middle School baseball team lost 12-1 at Cardinal Newman on Friday night.  The Panthers wasted a lead-off single by Avery Blevins when he was stranded at third in the top of the first inning.  In the bottom of the frame, the Cardinals scored seven runs against the Panther defense.  In that inning, the Panthers walked five batters and committed two errors.  The Cardinals only had two hits in the rally.  This seemed to deflate the young Panthers and they never recovered.  The Panthers scored their lone run in the fourth inning when Matthew Derrick reached via a walk and eventually scored on a wild pitch.  The Panthers only had two hits in this game; the lead-off single by Avery and a solid single by Noah Squires.  Three Panther hurlers toed the rubber during the game.  Collectively they gave up seven earned runs on nine hits.  They also walked eight batters.  The middle school is now 5-5.
