Panther JV Baseball Loses a Close one at Heathwood Hall

Panthers (JV) 4                     Heathwood Hall 5

The junior Panther and Highlander squads played a close game on Friday afternoon that ultimately ended in a loss for Providence.  The Panthers struck early scoring two runs in the top of the first inning.  John Edens led off with a single and Danny Waller followed him with a walk.  The Highlander pitcher struggled to find the strike zone early and wild pitches allowed John and Danny to go advance base by base until they finally scored.  The Highlanders went quietly in the bottom of the first.  The Panthers added one run to their lead in the top of the second.  With one out, John Edens reached on an error and scored on a double by Danny Waller.  Even though,  the Highlanders now trailed 3-0; the bottom of the second allowed the Highlanders to seize control of the game as they scored all five of their runs in that frame. Unfortunately, the Panthers helped them to score most of their runs.  In the inning, Panther pitchers walked or hit six Highlander batters.  Throw in three well timed hits and the result is a big inning for the Highlanders who exited the second inning with a 5-3 lead.  The Panthers tried to recover but only managed one run in the fourth inning.  Again, John and Danny were heavily involved.  John led off with a single and promptly stole second base.  Danny hit a hard grounder to shortstop who made an error that allowed John to reach third and then score.  The Panthers did not threaten any further in the fourth and went quietly in the fifth at which point the game ended due to time restrictions.  John Edens led the Panthers with two singles and scored three runs.  Carson Floyd pitched one inning for Providence allowing two earned runs on two hits.  John Edens followed him to the mound giving up three earned runs on three hits.  Danny Waller pitched the final inning and two thirds allowing no runs and no hits.  The Panther JV squad is now 4-2 on the season.
