Panthers (JV) – 9 Anderson Cavaliers – 5
A day after the Panthers varsity team travelled to Anderson to take on the Cavaliers, the JV team followed the same path to take on the Cavaliers in a double header on a beautiful day for baseball. The Panthers were victorious in the first game, prevailing by a score of 9-5. The Cavaliers drew first blood as they plated two runs in the bottom of the first inning. After a scoreless second inning, the Cavaliers expanded their lead in the third by scoring two more runs.
The Panthers roared back in the top of the fourth inning by scoring four runs. The big blow was a bases clearing triple by Micah West. Avery Blevins, Caleb Green and Samuel Leslie also had hits in the rally. The Cavaliers took the lead again by scoring one run in the bottom of the frame. After four innings, the Cavaliers lead 5-4.
The Panthers took the lead for good when they scored four runs in the top of the fifth. McKinley Proctor and Whit Melnyk led off with singles and Avery reached via a walk to load the bases for the Panthers. A walk to Caleb scored the first run of the inning and then Samuel Leslie knocked a single to score Whit for the second run of the inning. Caleb scored on an error by the Cavaliers and Samuel scored the last run of the inning when Micah West singled to knock in his fourth run of the game.
The Panthers scored their last run in the sixth inning when Avery singled to knock in McKinley.
The Panthers had eleven hits for the game. Whit had three singles. Micah had a triple and a single and collected four RBI’s. Avery Blevins and Samuel Leslie had two singles. Samuel pitched a complete game for the Panthers. He allowed five runs, four of which were earned. He gave up six hits and struck out five. The win evened the JV team’s record at 2-2.
Panthers (JV) – 1 Anderson Cavaliers – 5
The JV Panthers fell in the second game of the doubleheader with the Cavaliers by a 5-1 score. The Panthers took the lead in the bottom of the second when Josh Tanner scored on a groundout by Micah West. Good pitching by the Cavaliers shut down the Panthers for the balance of the game. The Panthers got a runner to third in the fourth inning but were unable to punch them in. The Cavaliers scored two in the second, two in the fourth and one in the fifth.
The Panthers were outhit nine to five in the second game. McKinley Proctor led the Panthers with two singles. David Hucks pitched 3 1/3 innings allowing four earned runs in taking the loss. Josh Tanner pitched 1 1/3 innings allowing one earned run.
