The Panthers improved to a remarkable 15-5 Tuesday night besting the Generals from Thomas Sumter Academy by a score of 12-7. This game was tight until the fifth inning at which time the Panthers were finally able to pull away. The Generals jumped out to an early lead by plating three runs in the top of the first inning on three hits and one walk. The Panthers answered in kind, by scoring three of their own in the bottom of the first. Anderson Blevins and Caleb Wilson both walked to start the game. They each advanced one base on a wild pitch and then both scored on a single by Alex Blevins. Alex advanced to second on the throw home and then on to third on a passed ball. Sean West drove in Alex on a ground out to short. The Generals retook the lead in the top of the second inning by scoring two runs. Again the Panthers answered and tied the game back up. Pat Brunson reached on a fielder’s choice. He stole second base and eventually scored on a passed ball. Anderson walked for the second time and scored when his brother, Alex, got his second hit of the game. The Panthers finally held the Generals without scoring in the top of the third and took the lead by plating one run in the bottom of the frame. Jake Brunson singled, eventually scoring on a ground out by his brother, Pat. The Generals regrouped and retook the lead in the top of the 4th inning by scoring two runs. The Panthers tied the game back up when Alex reached on a fielder’s choice and scored on a single by Sean. The Generals were done scoring; but fortunately, the Panthers were not and scored five runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to put the game away. With one out, Clay Dickinson singled to left field. Clay stole second, went to third on a passed ball and scored on an infield hit by Anderson. Anderson stole second base and for the third time in the game, scored on a hit by Alex; this time a triple to deep center field. Sean followed Alex’s triple with a double to deeper center field scoring Alex. James Reed slapped his first hit of the night to left field. Courtesy runner, Daniel Barfield (for Sean) then scored on a double steal. James advanced to third and scored on another double steal. This completed the scoring for both teams and good pitching and defense by the Panthers over the final innings completed the victory. The Generals actually outhit the Panthers (11-9), but the Panthers got some big hits when it counted; hitting .368 with runners in scoring position. The Panthers were also aggressive on the base paths stealing nine bases. Alex Blevins led the hit parade with three hits, including a triple, and drove in a season high four runs. He also scored three. Sean West pounded out two hits, including the double deep to center field, and had three RBI’s. Anderson reached base four times and scored three runs. Daniel Reed was the starting pitcher for PAC, pitching one and one third innings. He allowed five runs (three earned) on four hits and one walk. He was replaced by Clay Dickinson who pitched two and one third innings. He allowed two earned runs on four hits and three walks. Alex Blevins earned the win, pitching the final three and one third innings. He surrendered three hits but did not walk anyone or allow any runs. He struck out two. Game Notes: The Panthers improved their record to 15-5; continuing to add to their record win total. They are now 10 games over .500. The Panthers play Richard Winn Academy (13-3) Thursday in Winnsboro.
