Panther Baseball (B-Team) Sweeps Swansea

Panthers (B-Team) – 10                                Swansea – 2       (Game One)

The young Panthers swept Swansea in a B-Team double header at Bray Park on Wednesday night. The first game ended with the Panthers victorious 10-2.  David Hucks pitched a complete game allowing two runs (one earned) on three hits.  He struck out seven and walked four Tiger batters in an dominant effort.

The Tigers from Swansea dented the scoreboard first by plating one run in the top of the first when a runner scored on an error by the Panther left fielder. They added their only other run in the fifth when their first baseman (Taylor) doubled and scored on a wild pitch.

The Panthers scored on in the first when Andrew French singled and scored on a double by Billy Amick. They took the lead in the second inning by plating three runs.  Ryan Brown led off with a single.  He made his way to third and scored on a passed ball.  With one out Justin Thurber singled and took advantage of another Tiger wild pitch to score from third.  The last run of the inning scored when Will Owens raced home on a single by Cameron Duke.  After two innings, the Panthers led 4-1.

The Panthers really put the game away in the third when they scored an additional five runs. Billy Amick singled.  Micaiah Hinkle walked to advance Billy to second.  Billy then scored on an error by the Tiger third baseman which allowed Ryan to reach base safely.  Micaiah scored on a ground out by David.  Justin then stroked his second hit to left fielder who misplayed the ball and allowed Ryan to score and Justin to advance to second.  Justin later scored on a passed ball.  Ethan Hucks received a base on balls and was driven on a double by Will Owens.

The Panthers scored their last run in the fourth inning when Billy reached on an error and later scored on a passed ball.

Billy Amick led the Panthers with a double and a single and scored two runs. Justin also contributed two hits and scored twice as well.

Game Notes: The Panther B-Team is now 7-5 on the year. The Panthers had eight hits and fourteen productive at bats.

Panthers (B-Team) – 7                   Swansea – 3       (Game Two)

The Panthers completed their sweep of Swansea, winning 7-3 in the double header nightcap at Bray Park. Two Panther pitchers combined to limit Swansea to four hits.  Andrew French pitched the first three innings allowing one unearned run on one hit.  He struck out three and walked three as well.  Ethan Hucks pitched the final two innings for PAC; giving up two earned runs on three hits.  He struck out three Tigers as well and walked three.

Once again, the Panthers took control early in the game by scoring three runs in the bottom of the first inning. Andrew French walked with two outs. Billy struck out but the Tiger catcher let the pitch get away from him allowing Billy to race to first before the catcher could retrieve the pitch and throw Billy out.  Micaiah Hinkle singled to drive in Andrew.  Billy scored on a passed ball and Micaiah took advantage of an error by the Tiger catcher to score the final run of the inning.

The Tigers got one run back in the top of the third but the Panthers extended the lead in their half of the frame. Cameron Duke received a free pass and promptly stole second.  With one out, Billy reached base due to an error by the Tiger left fielder which also allowed Cameron to score.  The Tigers committed another error which allowed Billy to score and Micaiah to reach base safely.    He later scored on a wild pitch.  Avery scored the last run of the inning when he walked and scored on a single by Justin Thurber.

The Tigers tried to fight back in the last inning (the fifth) by scoring two runs and had the bases loaded before Ethan struck out the final Tiger batter to secure the game for PAC.

The Panthers only had two hits in their victory. Those hits were by Micaiah and Justin.  Billy and Micaiah both scored two runs.

Game Notes: The Panther B-Team is now 8-5 on the year.  The Panthers had ten productive at bats.
