Panther Baseball B-Team falls to Indians

The Panthers B-Team lost to the Indians from Orangeburg Prep by a score of 1-7 on Monday night.  The Panthers were outhit by 10-5 in the game and this was reflected in the final score.  As has happened in many of these games, the Panthers scored first but were unable to hold the lead.  Whit Melnyk singled in the top of the first inning and scored on a single by David Hucks.  The Indians responded in the bottom of the second inning when they plated four runs.  They added one more in the fourth inning and two more in the fifth.  Effective pitching by the Indians stymied the Panther’s efforts in their quest to score additional runs for the remainder of the game.  The Panthers were led by Whit Melnyk and David Hucks at the plate who both had two singles.  McKinley Proctor had the other hit by the Panthers.  The Indian first baseman robbed Avery Blevins of a hit with a fine diving catch of a line drive.  Samuel Leslie pitched two and one third innings giving up four runs (three earned).  He surrendered six hits while walking two and striking out two.  Avery Blevins relieved him on the mound, pitching the final three and two thirds innings.  He allowed three runs (one earned) on four hits.  He struck out two and walked two.  The young panthers are now 1-8 on the season.
