Baseball Sweeps Low Country Wildcats

The youngest Panther baseball team squared off against fellow felines from the lower part of the state and, on this day, the Panthers showed they were nastier cats.  The Panthers blew this game open early plating five runs in the first inning; one in the second; ten in the third and one in the fourth.  The Wildcats scored their two runs in the top of the fourth inning.  Micah West pitched four innings to pick up the win.  He allowed the two runs, both of which were earned.  The Wildcats got two hits off of Micah but struck out nine times against him.  He only walked three batters.  David Hucks relieved Micah and pitched one third of an inning striking out one.  Noah Squires came on to finish the game getting one strikeout.  The Panthers pounded out twelve hits in the game.  Avery Blevins, Caleb Green, Jacob Robinson, Nick Beach and Tyler Thomason all had two hits.  Micah West helped his cause with a bases clearing triple in the third inning.  Caleb Green had three RBI’s and Nick Beach and Tyler Thomason had two RBI’s a piece.  The young Panthers are now 5-4.

The Low Country Wildcats did not field a team last year and in their first year back on the diamond they are fielding young teams for both middle school and varsity.  Accordingly the Panthers sat their senior players and even called five or six junior varsity players up for the game to give them interaction with the varsity players and experience in a varsity game.  The Wildcats only scored one run in the game; scoring it in the 4th inning.  The Panthers went quietly in the 1st inning, but blew the game open in the second by scoring seven runs.  JC Ellis led off with a triple.  He scored on a groundout by Daniel Reed.  Daniel Barfield was hit by a pitch and scored when Caleb Wilson doubled down the third baseline.  Caleb scored on a single by Pat Brunson who later scored on a passed ball.  James Reed was walked and later scored on an error.  Clay Dickinson hit a single; Trevor Dacus was walked and both scored when JC hit his second triple of the inning.  The Panthers added five more runs in the third inning.  The big blow was a double by Grant Floyd.    In the 4th inning, the Panthers plated two more runs.  Cal Hucks had an RBI triple and Pat Brunson hit a sacrifice fly to drive in the last run of the game.  Pat Brunson was the winning pitcher going three innings.  He allowed no runs and one hit.  He struck out six and walked one.  Daniel Reed finished the game on the mound for PAC, pitching two scoreless innings.  He struck out five of the six batters he faced.  The Panthers pounded out nine hits.  JC Ellis had two triples and knocked in two runs.  Grant Floyd had a double and a single.  Cal Hucks slammed a triple and Caleb and James Reed both knocked doubles.  Pat Brunson had two RBI’s.  The Panther varsity squad is 12-1.
